This project aims to raise awareness of fibromyalgia, an invisible condition, by creating striking images that are visible to anyone that is nearby. We hope these visual shows will make more people aware of what is behind the condition and more importantly be more aware of how prevalent the condition is.
Chronic Pain is known to affect over 2 million Scots, with fibromyalgia making up a significant proportion of this number. It is thought that fibromyalgia could affect more than 3 million people within the UK. Fibromyalgia is an invisible, debilitating, painful condition that can strike anywhere on the body at any time and at present there is no cure and poor treatment options.
It is much more than “just” pain with a myriad of other symptoms that people endure. While research is slow, awareness of the condition has been growing but it is still misunderstood. Many GPs and health professionals continue to be reluctant in affirming its existence.
Our campaign is a joint effort between Fibromyalgia Action UK, the national fibromyalgia charity, and More Than Fibro, a growing Scottish SCIO. We are using purple as it is the colour that is related to fibromyalgia but also disability.
